Waiting Up For Your Teens

A parent of a teen presented yet another interesting idea. She said that she does not go to sleep until her teen daughter comes home so that she can see if her daughter has been drinking/smoking. Also, she said that when her daughter comes home at night she (the daughter) seems to be more willing to open up and talk to her. Perhaps when her daughter is a little tired and alone with her mother this provides just the perfect opportunity for disclosure. This mother also raised a more controversial point. She said that if she is too tired to stay up and wait then her daughter's curfew is earlier that night. She reminded her peer group that it's not just about her daughter- that family life is about her too. We would love to hear your thoughts on this!
